Hiking at O.P. Schnabel Park, 3/12/2018

About 10 miles from Admiralty RV Park is O.P. Schnabel Park, a 202-acre city park in San Antonio. The land was purchased by the city in 1964 because of the many oak trees, mountain laurels, and other native plants there.

We drove past a large YMCA when we entered the park. There are baseball fields, basketball courts, and soccer fields in the park, but we found a parking area in the opposite direction to access the hiking trails. There several large loop trails, and many connecting trails in-between.

Starting out on the Bluff Loop Trail, we followed several trails through the woods encountering interesting sights long the way (large oak trees, gnarly oak trees, butterflies, and eventually deer.

The trail connected with the Leon Creek Greenway (a 7.7 mile trail that runs through a portion of the park). We hiked only a portion of it and then made our way back to O.P. Schnabel Park.

Lots of families come hear for the sports programs, but this park also has lots of hiking trails. It will be gorgeous in the springKudos to San Antonio for their city parks
