NASA representatives were on hand for an exhibit in before the concert and during intermission, including several astronauts. But, there were also many NASA employees and family members in the audience. This made the movie even more enjoyable as there are lots of well-known lines in the movie, including James Lovell famous: “Houston, we have a problem.”
Here are some photos of us in the lobby after the performance.
While we had both seen Apollo 13 before, it was an awesome experience to see it at Jones Hall with live music from the Houston Symphony. And this was the world premiere of the film concert (in the perfect location). Other symphonies are doing film concerts throughout the country, but this is the first time we have attended one.
Our daughter is the Technical Director at Jones Hall and has given us a backstage tour of the space (pretty incredible!) In addition to Apollo 13, she has also enabled us to see other shows here (which is awesome). This is one of the huge benefits of having a theatre kid!
The other thing we love about Jones Hall are the amazing acoustics, comfortable plush red seats, and the cafe/bar in the lobby. We have purchased a cheese plate and drinks before the show to be served at intermission. Your order will be on a table with your name on a reserved sign, so no more standing in long lines when time is short. So, nice!
Jones Hall has done lots of other film concerts including: several Harry Potter films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Home Alone, Jaws, The Godfather, It’s a Wonderful Life, and more.
