After we dropped the girls off at their hotel to check in, we met at Jackson Square to check out the the sights in the area.
After enjoying the view of the Mississippi River along the Moonwalk, we checked out the shops east of the Cafe du Monde. I loved this statue of Joan of Arc, Maid of Orleans (1412-1431), a gift form the people of France to the citizens of New Orleans.
We had originally planned to get a muffuletta for lunch from the famous Central Grocery and Deli (since 1906). The delayed flight changed that plan but we will probably be back for one in the next couple of days.
Jamie Hayes is an artist who creates fun New Orleans-themed works of art. This gallery has been here for years (on Chartres Street a block west of St. Louis Cathedral. Amanda and Justine purchased a signed, matted print. Check out his work at www.jamiehayes.com.
We had a fantastic dinner at the famous Antoine's Restaurant. Because we were not dressed appropriately (we were too casually), we ate at their bar restaurant from the dinner menu. Honestly, the food was fantastic and priced accordingly (meaning expensive). I had pompano (fish) with an amazingly delicious sauce with crawfish. We shared sides of asparagus, broccoli, and potatoes.
Bourbon Street is always a scene. Here are a couple of the more risqué scenes... There are multiple Larry Flint/Hustler venues.
Our last stop for the night was the famous Carousel Piano Bar & Lounge located inside the upscale Hotel Monteleone. It is a revolving bar that was installed in 1925; it does one revolution every 15 minutes.
Loved this painting in the bar! The hotel lobby is gorgeous.
It is always such a treat to see our daughter, Amanda, and Justine. They are loads of fun and Amanda always has a full itinerary planned! She loves to travel as much as we do.
