Admission is $2/person that is paid at the entrance to the park. A map was provided and we decided to go to the Lagoon Trail that is located near the banks of the Vermilion River. Be sure to spray yourself with bug repellent before hiking in this area of the park!
Sadie promptly found a armadillo and we saw several more along the trail.
This photo shows the "knees" that grow from cypress trees to stabilize the trunks along the banks of the Vermilion.
It was a hot and humid day, so Sadie was anxious to jump in the water as soon as we were close to it. She loved going for a swim to cool down.
There is a lovely picnic area near the Aquatic Pavilion and boat launch.
Boats of various shapes and sizes can be seen on the Vermilion River.
Sadie enjoyed the sights (including these beautiful berries!) from the Aquatic Pavilion as much as we did
Four picnic pavilions are located in various places in the park. This one is located at Eagle Pond where canoes can be rented by the hour or the day and launched into the lagoon that connects with the river. Beware of alligators!
The visitor center has a nature center and a multi-purpose room that can be rented for social functions. Also, located in this area is the splash pad, a bath house, and playground.
There are six 2-bedroom cabins available for rent at the park (2 are handicap-accessible). They are located in beautiful, wooded settings.
Also, 95 campsites with water and electric hookups (dump station is nearby) are available. The sites are a nice size and shaded. Two comfort stations (bathhouses) are located at the camp ground as well.
Some RVers advised us that they had seen several snakes here (we didn't see any) and there are many warning signs for alligators, too. However, we found this park to be very beautiful with great amenities. Check out their website for information on pavilion, cabin, and campground rental rates and other park details.
