Today is our 9th wedding anniversary so we decided a dinner out was in order. For those of you who do not know us well, John was my boyfriend in 1970 when I was 17. He joined the army and was shipped out to Viet Nam. We broke up while he was there (I know, it was a terrible thing to do to anyone overseas) and I regretted how our relationship ended for many years. Forty years later (2010), we reconnected on Facebook…if you can believe that! John was living in NC and I was in PA. We were married 6 months later and I have never been happier!
After searching online for something nearby that we would like, we decided on Daisy Mae’s Steakhouse. And it did not disappoint.
This restaurant features southwestern-style meals with mesquite-fired steak, ribs, chicken and more. Here is the menu: www.places.singleplatform.com/daisy-maes-steakhouse/menu?ref=google#menu_985443. John had a beer, but I loved my prickly pear margarita!
In addition to the great food, our servers were fantastic! They were attentive and fun.
And, we loved the history of this stronghold building. It is one of the oldest buildings in southern Arizona. It was initially established as a trading post in the 1870s; then a US post office; then a general store; them a stop on the stagecoach line through Tucson. It became a brothel (for the soldiers of Fort Huachuca) in the late 1880s. For the last 60 years it has been a restaurant. Daisy Mae’s was established in 1993.
We added a dollar bill with anniversary date and names to the “dollar bill” décor here. Maybe we will return one day on a future anniversary!
