Located only a couple of blocks from the main public beach in Gulf Shores is Wade Ward Nature Park.
We parked in the public parking lot (free) on 1stStreet and it was a short walk to the community park. This small oasis features wetlands and waterways that connect Little Lagoon and Lake Shelby. A pavilion with picnic table overlooks the water.
The park features an elevated boardwalk that enables visitors to enjoy views of the wetlands.
There is a large expanse of open wetlands on the eastern side of the park, and high rise condos and businesses on the other three sides.
Wildlife can sometimes be seen (otters, pelicans, migrating birds, and alligators), but we only saw lots of small fish and a few crabs in the water.
And here are a few palm trees, too.
This is a lovely green space (12 acres) in the beach town of Gulf Shores.,AL. Open from 6 am to 9 pm, it is a charming place to enjoy the beautiful weather here when you long for a change of pace from the sandy beaches.
