About 12 miles from our RV park (Lutz, FL) is Lake Rogers Park, a 272-acre park and preserve of Hillsborough County.
The 2.25 mile loop trail encircling Lake Rogers was the reason why we visited this park. There is a nominal fee ($2) payable at a self-service kiosk near the trailhead. A picnic shelter is also located there.
In addition to hiking, fishing, canoeing, and picnicking are popular activities here. The nature trail is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail. And I always find ferns fascinating, not only because they have existed for 350M+ years, but because they are so diverse (over 10,000 species).
The first part of the trail was close to Lake Roger. As we continued around the like, I had fun snapping photos of the various plant life.
The trail is well marked and there are benches along the way. And my awesome hiking buddies (John and Sadie) are also shown!
The views of the lake were gorgeous and some of the water lilies were in bloom. Pickerel weed growing along the shore was starting to bloom as well. Bird houses have been installed throughout the preserve.
The trail continued through an oak hammock with cabbage palm undergrowth. The bright yellow blooms on this trumpet tree were another indication of spring!
We loved this hike around Lake Rogers. It is a leisurely walk in nature! There were very few other hikers during our visit and leashed pets are permitted (always a bonus for us). It’s really just a peaceful setting where you can enjoy some exercise in beautiful surroundings.
I’ve been enjoying viewing all the great photo’s on your recent postings!
