Wrapping Up our Time in Houston, 6/07-08/2018

Friday night we had the unique experience of attending the Sheep & Goat Committee Fundraiser (of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo). Even though we have never attended the Houston Rodeo (primarily because we have not been in town during the event), we have heard a lot about this massive, popular event. Kaitlyn has been an active  member of the Sheep & Goat Committee for 6+ years and purchased tickets for us to attend the fundraiser.

This was a BYOB event with a cash bar where you could purchase ice in an ice bucket, beer, and soda. Dinner was served buffet style and was really very good (chicken fried steak, potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls).

The silent auction was so much fun. Items were donated (through the efforts of committee members) and we all put in our bids for the ones we wanted. Here is a small sample of gifts that we bid on (but did not win). John really wanted those lottery tickets!

A live auction featured five items (from $150 to $6,200 in value). All brought more than the face value bringing good success to the fundraiser.

After announcements and the auctions, the Horizon Band entertained us with great music. There were so many smooth two-steppers out there! John and I even joined in. It was fun to interact with the rodeo crowd. I even bought a nice western shirt (John already had one), and we were sporting our cowboy boots.

What a great evening! Thanks to Kaitlyn and Amanda for inviting us to attend.

On Saturday, we made arrangements to get together at our place to watch the Belmont and have an early birthday celebration for Amanda (we will not be in Houston for her birthday on later this month).

Instead of a cake, I made some brownies. Thirty-five candles sure caused a blaze (ha ha!) Not sure what her wish was, but she blew out all of them with the first try.

It’s always a treat when we get to spend a holiday or birthday together. Farewell to Houston until the next time.
