Visit with Family in Roanoke, VA - 6/10 to 6/13/15

As we continue our sweep of the East visiting family and friends, our next stop after Concord, NC, was Roanoke, VA. John's mother had lived in Roanoke for many years. Today, four of John's five siblings still live in the area.

We had not seen any of them for almost two years, so it was catching up with everyone! The first night we were in town, Phoebe (oldest), David (youngest), and Nancy (fourth) and her Nancy's husband, John, met us at the campground.

We went to dinner in nearby Salem, VA, and was joined by our nephew, Brandon (Nancy's son), too. There was lots of catching up and laughter! The following night we saw John's brother, Mike (fifth) and Nancy (and her husband John, not shown in this photo). Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to see Mike's wife, Wendi, and son, Stew.

Our nephew, Willie (Phoebe's oldest son), and his family were in the area for the weekend (they live in SC) so we were able to hook up with them for a fun lunch with them including their adorable boys.

Our last day in town we drove to Mill Mountain with Nancy and John to see the Star, a must-see whenever you visit Roanoke! Afterwards we had a traditional, "last night in town," farewell dinner with them. We had a fantastic barbecue dinner at Mission Barbecue in Roanoke. Their beef brisket was outstanding!! And, the restaurant is reasonable priced. I highly recommend it. With a military, patriotic theme, there are loads of interesting photos and mementos there.

We really enjoyed seeing everyone here and are encouraging them to meet us somewhere on the road. We'll see if that ever happens...but it would be great fun!
