St. George/Hurricane KOA, October 1 - October 20, 2015

Rating: 3 on a scale of 5

Location: This campground worked out nicely for us as a home base to see the sights in the area. Located a couple of miles from an I-15 exit, Zion National Park is about 30 minutes away and Bryce Canyon National Park is about 2 hours. We also went to Cedar Breaks National Monument (about an hour away) and Pipe Springs National Monument in AZ (also about an hour away). Nearby are several state parks (Snow Canyon, Quail Creek, etc.) and the Red Cliffs National Recreation Area is only about 10 minutes from the campground. Hurricane is conveniently close for shopping and we went to St. George (half hour away) for a fabulous dinner one night. The surrounding terrain here is beautiful.

Lot Size: Having arrived here from Moab where are lot size was way too small, I asked if there was a site available that would afford us more space. We were fortunate to get a pull-through, end lot with a lovely grassy area and fire ring (lot 115).  Therefore, our lot was great! However, most of the other sites are quite narrow although the length is fine. There are numerous permanent residences here along the perimeter of the campground.

Amenities: The park provides free wifi (very unreliable and slow), cable TV (about 20 stations), heated pool, playgroud, clubhouse with pool table, library, and nice large laundry room. Shuffleboard, horseshoes and a small miniature golf course are also available. Cabins are available for rent and there are about 8 tent sites.

Cost: $722.33 (we ended up staying here longer than originally planned because of the theft on 10/10 of my iPad, camera, and Passport to National Parks book). When I ordered replacement devices, we needed to stay here to assure the shipments reached us (we were originally supposed to leave the day I ordered the replacements).

Management: As with all of the KOAs that we have stayed at, check in was quick and efficient. I also very much appreciated the great end lot that we were able to secure for our stay. And when we had to extend our stay to receive the shipments of the iPad and new camera, they were very accommodating, which we very much appreciated.

General Comments: We did not spend that much time at the campgrounds as we did a lot of sightseeing, but it was great having the area to sit outside and enjoy a fire at our site. There are many RV parks in the area and I would probably select a different one if we are in the area in the future. I did find all of the people that worked in the office to be very friendly and helpful.
