A Christmas Carol at The Alley Theatre, 11/26/2017

Our daughter, Amanda, had been working at the Alley Theatre (www.allytheatre.org) in Houston while she was going through the interview process at Jones Hall (where she started 11/27/2017 as Technical Director). We were lucky enough to attend the opening night of their production of A Christmas Carol - A Ghost Story of Christmas, thanks to Amanda.

The Alley Theatre is a leading, non-profit, regional theatre that hosted over 500 productions last year. It was awarded the Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and has brought productions to Broadway, over 40 American cities and several international ones as well. Opened in 1968, it underwent a major renovation in 2015-2016, but suffered significant damage ($18M) due to flooding during Hurricane Harvey this year.

Before the show, we walked around the theatre district and went to dinner. Below is a view of Jones Hall (www.joneshall.org) that is very close to The Alley.

Dinner at the Blue Fish (www.thebluefishsushi.com) was great not only because of the delicious food but because we met Kaitlyn for the first time!

We walked the short distance from the restaurant to The Alley and spent time admiring the gorgeous decorated Christmas trees in the multi-storied lobby.

Loved these two photos of Amanda and Kaitlyn. And here are a couple of us, too.

And the show was fantastic. It was held on the Hubbard Stage (800+ seat theatre) while restoration efforts due to hurricane flooding continue on the lower-level, smaller Neuhaus Stage. This is the 30th season that The Alley has produced Dickens' A Christmas Carol (wow!) The special effects (rigging, automation, etc.) were so well done; it was magical. We loved it.

What a great way to begin the Christmas season! The show is playing through December 31, so you still have the opportunity to see this wonderful production of this holiday classic.
