Thanksgiving Fun, 11/23/2017

We arrived in Galveston, TX, for our two-month stay at Jamaica Beach RV Park, a couple of days before Thanksgiving. Our daughter, Amanda, recently moved to Houston from NYC, so for the first time in over 5 years, we were going to be able to spend Thanksgiving together! Getting time off during the holidays for those who work in theatre is always challenging and often darn near impossible. Amanda also brought a friend, Leigh, to our place for Thanksgiving. She was unable to get home to her family and Amanda met her working at The Alley Theatre (www.alleytheatre.org). I never want anyone to be alone on Thanksgiving!

After a big breakfast, Amanda, Leigh and I went for a walk on the beach. The Gulf of Mexico was beautiful on this bright, sunny day.

Vehicles are permitted on a portion of the beach here....something we don't get to do at most beaches.

Wooden poles block vehicles from driving east or west on the beach beyond the designated area

Leigh and Amanda (below) both had been working long hours at The Alley in Houston, so some time off at the beach was a real treat. Leigh knows a lot about birds, so we had fun learning more about some that we saw.

Of course, John and I were thrilled to have Amanda with us for Thanksgiving. Leigh snapped this photo of the two of us on the beach.

Many houses along the coast are undergoing renovations due to recent hurricane damage

Preparing a large holiday mean in our RV kitchen is a huge contrast to our traditional Thanksgivings of the past. This is the one time of year that I miss our old house (and particularly the large kitchen and dining room) in PA where we could seat 12 at the dining room table; used my mother's dishes and silver; crystal and linens; beautiful serving dishes, etc., for our holiday dinners.

But we were so grateful that we spent the day with family and a new friend. That has always been the most important dimension of this and every holiday. Hoping you had a warm Thanksgiving with loved ones as well. Cheers!
