Local Festival - La Mardi Gras, 2/10/2018

We learned about this local event in nearby Lamar, TX, when we stopped by the Rockport Visitor Center a few days ago. Without anything to do on a Saturday, we decided to check it out.

This is the 16th Annual LaMardi Gras and benefits the Lamar Volunteer Fire Department. It features live music (Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday), vendors, a “Chinese” auction (you purchase tickets that you drop in boxes in win prizes), and food and drink (including beer and wine). The admission fee is $3/adult, but dogs are not permitted inside the event area. We did see this little guy sporting some beads near the entrance though.

Various tradition Mardi Gras necklaces and beads were for sale and some were dressed locals were to the nines!

We perused the vendors in an adjoining tent area.

The photo below shows the boxes where you could drop in a ticket to win various prizes (cash, restaurant vouchers, etc.) at the auction. There was also some friendly “gambling” going on using the tickets that were used for the auction and to purchase food/drink. We like to support the local communities we visit so we had purchased tickets, but, alas, did not win anything!

The primary attraction was the music. We purchased some food and drinks with our tickets and enjoyed the show.
