Some Chester County Restaurants - 6/15/15 - 7/17/15

Here are some of the eating establishments we visited while in our home stomping grounds this past month.

Timothy's Restaurant (American Fare, Sports, and Spirits). There are three locations (West Chester and Lionville, PA, and Waterfront in Wilmington, DE). We have been patrons of the West Chester restaurant since it opened. We met friends (Diane, John, Greg, Jeanne, Kevin, Suzanne) here for drinks and had lunch with Jessie and Lisa here as well. Love their flatbreads. mytimothysrestaurant.com

Limoncello Ristorante - Chester Springs, PA.  We met our dear friends Claire, Bill, and Lisa here for at this upscale Italian restaurant. Really loved their food. Be sure to check out the specials offered if you go here. www.limoncellocs.com. The original Limoncello is located in West Chester.

Black Power Tavern - Wayne, PA.  One of my closest friends from my previous job, Sharon, organized a dinner for us. I keep up with many of these folks (Mary, Jill, Susan, Pat, Ken, Sharon, Chris) on Facebook or email so it was really wonderful to catch up with everyone! Diane and her daughters joined is later in the evening as well for dessert. We had eaten so many meals here when we all worked together. This place is very close to Valley Forge Park and offers many craft beers as well.  www.blackpowdertavern.com

Seasons 52 - King of Prussia, PA. I had dinner here with long-time work colleagues and friends, Claire and Betsy. Seasons 52 is a restaurant chain with exceptionally great food. They advertise themselves as having "a seasonally-inspired" menu in a "casually sophisticated" setting. Be sure to make reservations here as the place is always crowded. Without reservations, you can wait in the bar area until a table becomes available there. www.seasons.52.com

Nottingham Inn, Kitchen & Creamery- Nottingham, PA. We met neighbors from our old neighborhood, Anne-Marie and Jeff, here for dinner. We love this little restaurant that serves fresh, mostly-locally grown food, from the area. Their dinner specials are consistently excellent. A small selection of beer and wine is offered. What fun we had catching up our kids and talking about everything else under the sun! The guys finished dinner with an ice cream treat from the creamery. We really miss this place. www.nottinghaminn.com

Sake Hana, Sushi Grill & Cocktails - Avondale, PA. Who would expect to find such an amazing sushi restaurant in a strip mall in Avondale? This place has the best sushi I have found anywhere. The owner, as are many of the servers, are from Manhattan. The ambiance is great and we always have had excellent service. They offer a great selection of saki and serve various delicious specialty cocktails. We enjoyed a great meal with my brother, Mark, and nephew, James. This is another restaurant we really miss. If you like this kind of food and are traveling along Rte 1 in Chester County, check it out! www,sakehana.net

Half Moon Restaurant and Saloon - Kennett Square, PA. I met my long-time work colleague and friend, Safiya, here for lunch (that lasted about three hours!) We had so much to talk about although we do stay in touch on Facebook too. It had been far too long since we had seen each other face-to-face. They offer an interesting menu featuring wild game, Belgian beer and other American fare. Our appetizers and meals were fantastic. This place is located along the main drag (State St.) through Kennett Square so parking can be found along the street or there is a parking garage a block away. www.halfmoonrestaurant.com

Black Walnut Winery - Sadsburyville, PA. We went to the "Sipping Sunday Funday" one Sunday afternoon at this local winery. We enjoyed a wine tasting of 7 wines (I purchased a few bottles) and enjoyed sitting on the dining patio listening to live music. I enjoyed seeing good friend, Joan, again and one of her work colleagues (Nancy) joined us as well. We shared a pizza served from a large food truck (wasn't that great). Regardless, it was just lovely afternoon! www.blackwalnutwinery.com

Diane's Sidewalk Deli - Chesterbrook, PA. I met my long-time, close friend, MaryLee, here for lunch. We had worked together for years in the 1980s-90s. This is one of the places where we have met for lunch in the past, so decided to meet yet again. Diane serves great lunch fare with prompt service. The best part of the meal though was catching up with MaryLee and the recent history of her family (her beautiful daughter was recently married).  www.dianessidewalkdeli.com

Jimmy John's - West Chester, PA. No, this is NOT the chain that you may know, but is a one-of-a-kind roadside attraction that has been in business since the 1940s. It is famous for their fabulous hot dogs but they also serve great burgers. There are multiple model train displays inside that are fun! My grandparents used to stop at this place when they were traveling from Reading, PA, to Seaford, DE, to visit us when I was a kid. John and I stopped in for lunch ... it was great! www.jimmyjohns1940.com

Wegmans, Market Cafe - Downingtown, PA. We stopped at Wegmans to do some grocery shopping and ended up eating dinner here. This place has various food bars (salad, American fare, Asian food, vegetarian, wings) and a counter to order pizzas, etc. A huge variety of drinks, including beer, is also available for purchase. There is a large dining area with TVs and wifi, all very nice. While this is not really a restaurant, it sure is a good deal where you can find a wide variety of good food. www.wegmans.com

We've eaten out so much this month, we are ready to get back to our great home-cooked meals in our motorcoach! The best part, though, was seeing so many old friends at these places.
