Big Nose Kate's Saloon - 1/19/15

Our first night in Tombstone, AZ, we took a stroll through this famous western town. The RV park where we are staying is within walking distance to all of the main attractions here. Allen Street is the main road through town and vehicular traffic is not allowed for several blocks which helps create the old-time experience of historic buildings, businesses, and restaurants/saloons.

This is the first sight we saw.

Stagecoach rides that include a tour of Tombstone can be purchased throughout the day. After perusing some shops, we decided to eat dinner at Big Nose Kate's Saloon.

The building was once The Grand Hotel, built in 1881, and numerous famous individuals of the time stayed here. This is a sign at the entrance to the restaurant.

Big Nose Kate is believed to be the first prostitute of Tombstone, Arizona Territory. There were, of course, many more that followed. However, her biggest claim to fame is that she was also Doc Holliday's girlfriend.

We sat at a table in an elevated area by one of the front window...it was really quite nice!

We ordered cocktails (I had a prickly pear margarita that was delicious and John had a bottled beer). Their menu is reasonably priced and I had a cheeseburger/fries and John had Brisket Sandwich. Our waitress was dressed in a period dress that showed plenty of cleavage (that John enjoyed) and was a real sweetheart. Our food was delivered promptly and was good (not great), but, hey, this place is about the atmosphere!

Here's a view of the saloon from our table.

The movie, Tombstone, is shown continuously here on a large TV (which was pretty cool). Here are some photos of the interior of the Saloon.

The bar.

There were lots of photos of local lore on the walls. This was one of John's favorites.

Both locals and tourists frequent this place. There is a subterranean area (called the Shaft) accessed via a spiral staircase in the center of the restaurant, but it was closed when we were there. Some Kate's clothes are on display there and is also a gift shop. Some claim that this building is haunted and numerous individuals have reported paranormal activity...

We enjoyed the ambiance and may stop back by before we leave town for a drink or two. What fun!
