Historic Buildings of Tombstone - 1/19/15 to 1/27/15

This post is a random collection of some of the historic buildings we saw when we were in Tombstone for a week. This place feels like an Old Western town, even today! Lots of folks dress up in the traditional western wear of the 1880s, too. What fun (if you are as intrigued by this time in our country's history as we are)!

The Crystal Palace, 1879. The original backbar is still in use. We had dinner and cocktails here.

Tombstone Fire House, built in 1880, is a Senior Center for the community today.

The Oriental Saloon.

Tombstone Epitaph (newspaper), 1880. Continues to publish a monthly paper today.

O.K Corral where the famous gunfight occurred on October 26, 1881 between the Earp brothers/Doc Holliday and the McLaury brothers and Clantons.

Bird Cage Theater, 1881.

Original bar and stage.

Tombstone Courthouse, 1882.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church built in 1882 was the first protestant church in the Arizona Territory and has never closed its doors since.
City Hall, 1882.
Allen English Home, 1882.

You just never know what you will see in Tombstone!

1919 Nash.

Recording session underway for documentary on Tombstone.

Street gunfight ... about to go down.

We also took a 1/2 hour narrated tour on a stagecoach. Our guide provided some interesting stories bout the various buildings and history of the Wild West in Tombstone.

If you are contemplating a visit to Tombstone, check out their website. When we arrived in town, we visited the Visitor Center where there are brochures and information about everything in the area.
