Location: Desert Trails is located in the southeastern area of Tucson near Tucson Mountain State Park. Also, Saguaro National Park (East), Old Tucson Studios, and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museums are also nearby. This was a great location for us to explore the Tucson, AZ and the surrounding area, Organ Pipe National Park, and Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. We were here for two months and it proved to be a great home base for all that we wanted to do here. Additionally, there are actually, miles of desert trails that can be accessed directly from the park. We had many enjoyable hikes in the area and our dog, Sadie, just loved it. Trails are marked and there are chairs placed in various spots for the enjoyment of hikers.
Lot size: We had a great location along the back fence (next to Diamond J RV Park). The lot size is average, but we had plenty of room to park the car, stow our tow dolly, and put out our large exterior rug and chairs. When we arrived, Pericles (the owner/manager), gave us an option of about 5 sites and we selected the one we liked the best. View from the front of our RV.
Picnic tables are provided at each site as well.
Amenities: This is where this park really excels. There is a long list of park features that can be found on their web site. Here are some: heated pool, hot tub, 3 laundry buildings (very nice), 6 activity buildings (rec hall, library, pool hall, exercise room, etc.), free wireless (although we often found it too slow for our liking (we have a 30 gb data plan with AT&T and used that during most of our stay), off-leash dog park for small and one for large dogs, and LP gas delivery every Wednesday (if desired). This was a great convenience and the delivery fee was only $5. As I mentioned above, the nature loop and hiking trails are fabulous.

Additionally, there is an activity calendar that is published monthly with many opportunities for social interaction, field trips, and educational opportunities. Since we were at this location for the holidays, we enjoyed planned dinners at the recreation hall for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve. On Thanksgiving and Christmas the park provided turkeys and ham and we all brought appetizers, side dishes or desserts. We brought our own cocktails, but coffee/tea was provided. For New Year's the park provided dinner at a cost of $17/per person with an option for shrimp, steak or ribs. It was really quite good. There was a New Year's Eve dance following ($6/per person) with an oldies band that was great fun and played until midnight. It was very nice to have a place to go at a great price with no driving!
They also hold karaoke nights, games nights, and have bands every few weeks on Saturday night for $5 per person that includes wine. Again, we brought an appetizer to these Saturday night dance parties. Honestly, we had a blast meeting folks and dancing to tunes of our era!
Food trucks come to the park twice a week. We purchased dinner from several of them and the food was good and reasonable. This info is also published on the monthly calendars.
Cost: The monthly cost is $595 for a 50-amp site. There is no additional charge for electrical usage at this park making this price very reasonable.
Management: Pericles Wyatt is the owner and manager of this park and he personally creates the wonderful atmosphere of fun here. Almost everyone we met had been to the park in the winter in previous years and keep coming back year after year. Pericles gets to know everyone personally and is always very helpful in providing information about the area (and he is very well informed) or dealing with any issues that may arise. We will likely stay here again. The park is an adults only place although grandchildren are welcomed for visits.
