Shady Lane RV Camp, April 13 to April 20, 2016

Rating: 3.5 on a scale of 5

Location: We decided to visit Barstow, CA, because it was about halfway between Desert Hot Springs (where we spent two months at Sam's Family Hot Water Resort) and Three Rivers, CA, that is near Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks. Also, we had an interest in seeing the Rainbow Basin Natural Area that is nearby. This RV park was an excellent location to visit Rainbow Basin and very convenient to other area attractions as well. Major routes I-15 and I-40 intersect at Barstow making it a crossroads to many destinations. Unlike other RV parks in Barstow, there is no road or train noise here.

Lot Size: We had a pull through lot (#8) that was not very wide. We did however have plenty of room for our tow dolly and car. Also, our lot was partially shaded which was very nice. We were next to a permanent trailer, but we did not ever see the owners. Because we spent very little time at the park during the day and we were only here for a week, it worked out fine for us.

Amenities: We had full hook ups and cable TV. Wifi is an additional charge directly with the provider that can be purchased on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. There is a nice laundry room (4 washers and 2 dryers) with a lending library. The bathrooms are sparkling clean.

Cost: $210 for a week (7th night was free)

Management: The folks in the office were great leading us to our site and helping us with parking the RV. After we were all set up, I returned to the office to pay for the week. Lots of information about attractions in the area (and a TV guide for the cable stations) was provided including a basic map of the town.

General Comments: This is a small no frills park, but it is well run and we enjoyed our stay here. It is also very close to the Skyline Drive In that we went to Friday night. A large area next to the Drive In has many hiking trails. We were able to walk with Sadie, our doggy, off leash there, very convenient. Saturday night the park was full, so you may want to make reservations if you are pass through this area. There are several permanent residences here, but many RVs stop here for just one night. The reasonable price and great staff make it a nice place to stay.
