Delaware Seashore State Park, August 31 to September 7, 2017

Map of Camground:

Rating:  1.0 on a scale of 5

Location: We stayed at the South campground at the Indian River Inlet where there is a large RV park that accommodates hundreds of RVs, trailers, and tents. There is great fishing along the inlet and a marina across the bay. Also, the beach is within walking distance of the campground as is The Big Chill Beach Club (restaurant and bar). A pedestrian/bicycle walkway is located on the Indian River Inlet Bridge if you want to walk to the beach on the north side (popular surfing destination). It is located between Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach on Route 1, so easily accessible. Rehoboth Beach and the outlets are north of Dewey, so also very close to this location.

Lot size: The lot size was what we had expected. We were in lot #340. I made our reservations about 6 months ahead of our arrival. The second day were at the campground there was heavy rain and we (and our neighbors) woke up to flooded lots (6-8"). We contacted management and a park supervisor did come by to speak with us. Basically, there was nothing they could do. We (and two of our neighbors) requested and received a $100 refund. So if you ever make reservations here AVOID the following lots due to flooding: #338, 339, 340, 341, 342. Unfortunately, they did not have any available sites for us to move to...

Here are some views of the other sites in the campground as well as one of the areas for tent camping.

Amenities: The restrooms and showers are very clean and well maintained. However, the showers are only lukewarm (at best). I found one laundry room with only 1 washer and 1 dryer. There is a nice playground, but there was flooding in a large area in front of it.

A camp store sells firewood, ice, and other camp items.

Cost: $309/week; $44/day (but we received a $100 refund due to flooding)

Management: Faith that was on duty when we checked in and when we first had flooding, and she was great. She made sure the supervisor came down and talked to us. On Tuesday, 9/05, when we were having our electrical control board replaced, he discovered that there was no power coming from the tower at our site.

When I went to the entrance gate to tell the person on duty, she told me that maintenance went home at 3 pm (it was about 3:30) and that no one could look into it until the next day. When I asked for a new site that did have power and no flooding, she told me we could move to site 342 or 343. Neither site had a sewage connection. I went back again. Finally she said we could move to site 339 only until 9/07. At least the power worked at that site. A camp host did come by the site, but advised us that he did not have access to the building where the power equipment was.

But it poured rain again that night, and the site was flooded with about 6" of rain. And again, there were no other sites available. The RV is on an asphalt pad, but the rest of the site is sandy soil. Once the sun came out, the water started to dissipate.

When we learned we had to wait for a part to repair our rear slide motor, we moved to G&R Campground about 40 miles north (and closer to the repair tech).

General Comments: This campground does a great business and is full many weeks all summer as well as most weekends in the spring and fall. They need to either fix the problem with the flooding in these sites or not rent them out (or rent them out at a reduced rate!) To leave the motor coach we had to step in water past our ankles. We also had to dry off our dog after she went outside. So, forget about sitting outside and enjoying the beauty of the area or using the picnic table. I was also very disappointed in the lack of communication from management when problems were identified. We never received any updates on what the problem was. Frustrating.

It is for these reasons that I gave this campground such a low rating. I was fully expecting to love this place, but all of these inconveniences changed my opinion.
