Whispering Pines Campground, August 12-17, 2017

Rating:  3 on a scale of 5

Location: From this campground, we were able to visit the Roger Williams National Monument in Providence, RI; Newport, RI; and Mystic, CT, so the location worked out very well for us. Because we wanted to tour New England this summer, we wanted to stay in this small, but beautiful, state.

Lot size: We had an end, wooded lot (G2) that was quite large. However, the position of the trees on the the site made it difficult for us to get into and out of it. Initially, getting situated for the hook ups meant we could not open our slides all of the way, so we had to reposition our RV. When we were leaving (very tight turn for either a right or left turn), we almost damaged the RV when trying to miss the trees. We did have a very nice stone fireplace where we enjoyed a couple of campfires at night and a sturdy picnic table. There are many seasonal residents throughout the park. And cabins are available for rent.

Amenities: There loads of amenities at this campground with something for all age groups!  Following is a partial list of them: playground, horse shoes, basketball court, pool, mini golf, volleyball, train (rides for kids), recreational hall, pavilion for us by groups, lending library, laundry, restrooms/showers, and the beautiful lake (catch and release). The wifi was slow (as it usually is in RV parks). We were able to get TV stations by air (no cable TV).

Sadie also had a lot of fun here. I don't know what she found in this hole, but she sure had a lot of fun nosing around down there.

Cost: $256; $53.20/day

Management: The folks at this place were very nice and the park is well managed. A gate access key is provided at check in ($10 deposit) and the money is returned when you turn in your card when you leave. The camp store has a variety of items for camping, sells ice, and firewood. A propane filling station is also on-site.

General Comments:  The reason for the 3.0 rating here is that the roads were not well-maintained (huge holes that are not good for a class A motor coach with a tow dolly). Also the position of our hookups in relationship to the trees on our site, required some maneuvering to accommodate our slide outs amidst the trees (although we did like the shade). Otherwise, this is a very nice park, conveniently located, and lots to do.
