New York City North/Newburgh KOA, August 17-24, 2017

Rating:  4.0 on a scale of 5

Location: The name of this campground is misleading as it is at least 1.5 hours to NYC from this location. The Beacon MTA station is about 25 minutes away but trains run from Manhattan (Grand Central) to it (train ride is about 75-80 minutes). Nonetheless, we were traveling south from CT and wanted to see our daughter who lives in Astoria (Queens).

Lot size: Our site here was fantastic...one of the nicest ever (#71). It was a pull-through, full hook-up site with a fire ring and picnic table on a "corner."  We were able to just pull right in and out with no problems. The lot was large and well-shaded with plenty of privacy from contiguous sites. Loved it!

All of the sites are large (below is a back in), most are wooded, and all are set back from the campground roads. There are many nice cabins for rent in various locations in the park.

Amenities: As with most KOAs, amenities abound here. However, everything here is maintained well above the average KOA. Cable TV was great and even wifi was usable here (in our experience campground wifi is usually too slow). Across from the office (near the entrance) is an area call the Fun Zone where there are lots of activities for guests. Here are some of the amenities available here playground, 2 pools, snack bar, lake (catch and release fishing) and cabins that overlook the lake, rental bikes, jump pad, activity center (where sporting equipment is available), horseshoe pits, mini golf, basketball court, and an arcade.

The laundry room (4 washers, 5 dryers) is located in the same building as the bath house.

Cost: $464 (yes, you heard me correctly, $464 for one week!) We have paid this much for a month in various parts of the country! But, we wanted to be in this location to see our daughter, so we made the decision almost a year ago to stay here. Below is the breakdown of cost. Weekend nights are more expensive, as noted below.

Management: The management staff are great here. I had mail and a package from Amazon shipped here with no problems. The store, located where you check in, has lots of camping stuff, wine, and souvenir items for sale. Tours (by bus) to NYC depart each day from the campground. Firewood, ice, and propane are all available here.

General Comments:  This is a great campground with every amenity you could want. Also, the entire place is immaculate with high quality equipment for guests and beautiful grounds. The ONLY reason I gave this place a rating of 4 is because of the exorbitant price. But, having been to NYC many times, things just cost a lot more in this part of the country! Below is a map of the campground.
