Zarkana (Cirque Du Soleil show) - 11/14/14

Seeing Zarkana at the beautiful Aria Resort and Casino theatre Friday night was an amazing experience. If you have never seen a Cirque production, this one provides an unforgettable spectacle of sight and sound.

Cirque Du Soleil is a private entertainment company founded in 1984 by two street performers. It is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, employing approximately 5,000 people with annual estimated revenue exceeding $810M (US). Shows are in production on every continent (except Antarctica) including 8 permanent shows in Las Vegas. Approximately 9,000 people attend the Vegas shows alone each night.

Circus styles from around the world are the core aspect of every production and each show has its own central theme and storyline. The performers provide breathtaking acrobatic feats that literally had me holding my breath. Beautiful music performed by a music ensemble and exceptional soloists is unforgettable.

Characters from the show paraded through the lobby as we were waiting for the house to open.

Because I do not know how to describe this amazing show, here is a quote from the playbill: "Zarkana is a spirited journey through an abandoned theater, where an extraordinary circus comes back to life. Populated by a motley collection of off-the-wall characters and incomparable acrobats, Zarkana is a visual vortex set in a twisted acrobatic fantasy universe where, little by little, chaos and craziness give way to a true celebration."

And, they permit non-flash photography during the show. Because I wanted to enjoy the show, I only snapped a few shots. Here they are:

Not sure if you can this, but there is a guy with two people standing on his shoulders and then a third one does a flip and ends up on top of them all. Amazing.

Finale.
Final bow.

We loved seeing this classic Cirque production with Amanda and Justine. We had fabulous seats and the show was mesmerizing from the opening act until the final bow. Love, love, loved it. I will remember it always.

Between Wednesday, 11/12/14, and Friday, 11/14/14, Amanda and Justine saw four Cirque Du Soleil shows:

- Ka, at MGM Grand
- O, at Bellagio
- Zarkana, at Aria (the one we saw with them)
- Zumanity, at New York, New York

Because they work in theatre in Chicago (Blue Man, Million Dollar Quartet, and other freelance work), they have friends that work for Cirque and, of course, have wanted to see these great shows. When we asked them which show they liked best, the response was, "Each one is unique, amazing, and magical." Yep, I think that about sums it up.

Tickets are available on-line or at the theatre box office at the Aria. Ticket prices are, of course, dependent upon the seats.
