Today we had sunshine and decided to pack a picnic lunch and head for the beach. We went to Padre Island and turned left onto TX 361 toward Mustang Island. After crossing over Packery Channel is Zahn Road (on the right) that will take you to J.P. Luby Surf Park.
Vehicles park right on the beach here. A beach permit is required ($12/year) and because it is spring break, we were informed the police will be on alert for violators. Needless to say, we purchased one!
We found a spot, set up our chairs, hooked Sadie up to a leash, and started enjoying the beautiful weather. Here is the view from that location.
We took a walk along the beach to the jetty on the north side of Packery Channel (a man-made channel between Laguna Madre and the Gulf of Mexico).
View of the beach from the jetty.
Nosy Sadie exploring the jetty (and sniffing all of the fishermen on it).
Known as a hot surfing spot, we saw many surfers. Kiteboarding is also popular but none were out today.
Pelicans...skimming across the water. Plus view toward the jetty on the southern side of the channel.
Sea spray at end of jetty.
Not great photos, but the dolphins at the end of the jetty were awesome to see!
Just beautiful!
Vendors set up here during summer months providing rental kayaks, boogie boards, surf boards, and jet skis. We saw two food trucks today. Also, lots of fisherman were surf fishing or fishing from the jetty too. There were lots of families enjoying the sunshine today and some folks even swimming without wet suits...brrrr. It's easy to understand why so many families love living in this coastal region.

What a great day! I think Sadie and Maggie would have great fun together running until they dropped.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think they would have a blast. I know you love your dog as much as we do ours! Hopefully, our paths will cross in our travels.
ReplyDeleteOffshores and dolphins, what a magical day.
