Kite Day at Padre Island National Seashore - 3/07/15

Today we went to Padre Island National Seashore to check out the kite-flying event held from 11 am to 4:00 pm. We packed a picnic lunch and headed out although the weather is a bit chilly (around 55 degrees).

The event was held at Malachite Beach located directly behind the Malachite Visitor Center in the park. We saw lots of families enjoying kite-flying with their kids. And, there were also some serious adults doing the same!

Some of our favorites.

Can you find John in this photo?

We went for a walk on the beach while we were in the park.

And these critters that had washed ashore.

We stopped at a couple of tourist attractions on Padre Island on our way home.

This huge sand castle (fake) is the facade for the Ocean Treasures souvenir shop.

Admission to Padre Island National Seashore is $20/car. John's senior pass gets us in for free. And today, we purchased a senior pass for me (now that I am 62!!) It costs $10 and gets me and three guests into locations managed by the National Park Service for free for life. What a deal.
