Julian's BBQ - 3/19/15

John loves good barbecue and we didn't want to leave Corpus Christi without trying eating some. There are several good chains in the area (notably Rudy's), but we were looking for the local experience. Using the trusted UrbanSpoon application, we looked for someplace not too far away with a good rating and user reviews.

Julian's BBQ is the place we selected for a late lunch. It has an 84% rating on UrbanSpoon and 4.2 to 4.5 (out of 5) ratings on various other sites.

Here's their menu.

John ordered the two-meat plate (brisket and pork ribs) with 2 sides (beans and cole slaw). I ordered the the pork ribs with green beans and potato salad. The barbecue is pit smoked and was absolutely delicious. The brisket was tender with a great smoky flavor. The ribs dry-rubbed and also had a nice smoked flavor. We both prefer ribs without sticky, messy barbecue sauce. Their sauce was available on the tables for those that like that style.

You place your order at the counter in front of the food preparation area. Your order is then brought out to you in the dining area. Lots of folks order take out as well.

The service was excellent and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Our order was delivered to us in no time (although the place was not busy due to the time of day we were visiting...afternoon).

The place was clean and well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and were glad that we ate here before leaving Corpus Christi. If we are in the area again, we will be going back!

Thanks to the folks who work here for a great dining experience.
