Whispering Elms Campground, June 22 to June 26, 2018

Rating:  3.5 on a scale of 5

Location: This campground has a motel, full hook-up RV sites, and tent sites. It is less than a half mile to the Great Basin National Park. There are several campgrounds at the national park, but none have full hook ups for RVs. So, for us, this was the perfect place to stay! With a population of only 68, Baker, NV, this campground is the happening place in town.

Lot size: We had a great shaded, pull through, full hook-up site with plenty of room for our tow dolly and car.

Below are some views of the campground.

The motel is nearby and we saw lots of guests come and go in the short time we were here.

Amenities: Cell reception is very spotty is this remote part of the country. Whispering Elms offered wifi, but it was also sometimes slow. There are so few mobile towers in the area that it is difficult to get reliable reception anywhere. We could drive a mile east and get an AT&T signal...sometimes. (This is a place to disconnect and enjoy nature!) There are bath houses and a laundry room here.

The folks that run this place also managed the bar (open 4:00 to 7:00 pm daily).

Campers in the area can purchase a hot shower, do their laundry here, use the dump station, fill up with water, or purchase firewood here.

If you are looking for a resort-style RV park, don’t come to this area.

Cost: $234/week; $33.40/night

Management: Check in is in the same building as the bar and is at 3:00 pm. However,  we arrived early (not realizing that 3:00 pm was check in time). However, the manager sent us to our site and I returned later to pay for the week.

We really liked the couple that manages this place. They were great and know everything about the area. Some folks live here full time and all that we met were very friendly. We had a small issue with new RV neighbors encroaching on our space. The manager immediately took care of it to our complete satisfaction (which we really appreciated). This place seems to basically serve all the needs of visitors to Baker and the locals as well. And some shade in this desert environment was great!

General Comments: We made a decision to leave early due to a family issue and did not expect (nor receive) a refund for the nights we were not here. I would really like to see more of Great Basin National Park and will definitely stay here if/when we return to Baker.
