Location: We made a last-minute decision to stop here for two days on our way to Garryowen, MT, where we plan to visit the Custer Battlefield. It is only a short distance from our already-planned route to Montana. Our primary reason for visiting this area is to see Devils Tower, and this park is adjacent to it. The Tower can be seen from almost every site in the park!
We also enjoyed visiting the nearby towns of Sundance and Hulett, WY, so this was a perfect location for us as we visited Devils Tower both days we stayed here.
Lot size: Our site is a pull-through (which is always great) with plenty of room for our tow dolly and car. There's a picnic table but no fire ring (the campsites in another part of the park do have them). We also have shade, which is very nice (some of the lots do not).
Amenities: There is a small heated pool, multiple bath houses, laundry, store, ice cream stand, and a small restaurant. Also, the park shows the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in an outdoor venue every night. We had fun watching it along with others here! The Belle Fourche River runs along the perimeter of one side of the park.
Cost: $120. Price was inflated due to the timing of our visit (the weekend that Sturgis rally starts). There were many bikers staying here.
Management: These folks were very helpful when I called at the last minute for a reservation. With the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally officially staring on August 4, most of the parks within a 50-75 mile radius are booked.
Comments: This is our first stay at a KOA campground. We paid $27 annual membership fee which afforded us a 10% discount at this park. When we travel to the East Coast in 2015, there are many KOA parks there, so I believe this will prove to be a good (and small) investment. Overall, we were very pleased with our short stay here (even though it was a bit pricey).
