Custer's Gulch - July 20-August 2, 2014

Review Rating:  2.5 stars on a scale of 5

Location:  This park was a perfect location for the sights we were interested in seeing in the Black Hills region. It is adjacent to the Black Hills National Forest and was very convenient to Custer, SD, for groceries, fuel, shopping, restaurants, etc. The location was also close to the wonderful Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, and various scenic drives including the spectacular Badlands National Park.

Lot Size:  Our lot was very large with plenty of room for our tow dolly and car. Each site has a nice picnic table and fire ring with grill for cooking. Firewood is sold at the office. We had a beautiful view up a slight incline to the forest. Neighbors were not too close, which was great.

Amenities:  Very few amenities here. Small laundry room (we did our laundry in town). Horse shoe pit. We never ventured into the showers.

Cost:  $565.

Management:  Honestly, the folks in the office are very rude and not at all helpful. This is the reason for the low rating of this park. They claimed that I did not tell them we were members of Good Sam Club (10% discount) when I made the reservation so would not refund the money. I have never experienced this (and I have never failed to use one of our park memberships to get a discount!!)  They also advertise that they take AAA (it's on their sign at the entrance and on their brochures distributed in the area). But when I asked about this discount, they said they no longer take it. What?? The park, however, is very well maintained.

Comments:  We will not stay here again due to the attitude of management. There are many RV parks in the area so there are lots of options for nice places to stay.
