Des Moines West KOA Holiday, August 9 to August 12, 2016

Rating:  4.5 on a scale of 5

Location: This campground is located in a quiet rural area west of Des Moines, although I-80 is just a few miles away. We were only here for three days so did not do a lot of sightseeing due to the very hot and humid weather. I had wanted to visit the beautiful Capitol building in Des Moines, but there was a Hillary Clinton rally and we did not want to deal with the traffic, etc. There are so many amenities here, that families make this park the destination for a vacation. We did go to nearby Adel, IA, which is a lovely little town where we did some shopping; I had a great pedicure at PRIVE Nails; and we had a delicious and very affordable dinner with great service at the casual restaurant, Patrick's (www.aweserv.com).

Lot size: We had a fantastic, pull-through, end site (#56) with shade. The lots are quite large (75') with lots of room for the motor coach, tow dolly, and car. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring (firewood is sold at the office).

There are cabins (1-bedroom and deluxe) available for rent and tent sites with electricity.

Amenities: There are so many amenities at this campground for family fun. Cable TV has lots of channels and the wifi is usable. The pond is stocked for fishing and there are paddle boats at the dock for guests. There is also a very nice swimming pool.

There are lots of games around the park for fun such as volleyball, horseshoes, ladder golf, basketball, peddle cars, and water wars (with balloons).

For the kids there is also a nice playground, trampoline (enclosed), jumping pillow, and mineral panning chute.

Kamp K9 is the dog park that has two large, fenced in areas.

A pavilion has a large outdoor kitchen and projection screen for viewing movies.

Trash is picked up at your site throughout the day until 30 minutes before the closing time of the office.

Cost: $146 w/10% KOA discount

Management: As always, the folks here are super efficient. Check in took just a few minutes and we had an escort to our site. They were very helpful and friendly. Ice, firewood, camping supplies, ice cream, pizzas, and souvenirs can be purchased at the office.

General Comments:  The only issue I have with this place is that it is relatively expensive, but with all of the amenities here I believe it is a fair price. If you want to be close to Des Moines, this is not the place for you (although it is only about 30 minutes away). We thought this was a beautiful park with lots to do.
