Amistad, Diablo East - 2/14/15

Today, we continued our exploration of the Amistad National Recreational Area by visiting the Diablo East area. One of the most popular boat ramps is located here as well as a ranger station, marina, hiking trails, and picnic areas.

There is a 2 large floating docks near the boat ramp.

We parked the car and hiked a couple of the nature trails in this area. My hiking buddies...

This area is 100-million-year old limestone formed when the land was under the sea.  Shells of billions of tiny marine creatures built up on the ocean floor, and this is what remains.

Diablo East Marina.

The bridge that crosses Amistad on Rte 90 can be seen in the distance.

Ranger station.
Buoy on display.

And, of course, the Border Patrol can be seen everywhere in this part of the country.

Because fishing is the primary recreational activity here, there is a large fish cleaning station at Diablo East.

The blue water here is just spectacular. This is when we wish we still had a boat!! We are talking about purchasing a kayak. It would have been nice to have one here.
