The beautiful Sierra del Carmens could be seen in the distance as we walked to the trailhead.
As we walked through the campground we saw these beautiful cardinals.
And a roadrunner.
The first 300' of the Nature Trail is through a wildlife viewing platform on a pond.
Turtles.
The trail then passes through a desert area.
Trinkets placed along the trail by Mexican Nationals for sail to park visitors. This is illegal but we have seen such set ups in numerous places in this part of the park.
The trail gets a little steeper at it climbs the hillside.
Great views of the river and mountains can be seen as we climbed higher.
The pond of the wildlife viewing area can be seen to the right of the Rio Grande.
My hiking partner, at the top of the climb.
We spent some time here enjoying the panoramic views.
Here is the Mexican village of Carmen del Boquillas across the river.
My mountain goat had to check out the cave...
We met several folks we had seen yesterday at the Lost Mine Trail here. A final shot of the river from the lower portion of the trail.
This was a very enjoyable hike. Not too strenuous (as we are not as young as we used to be!) but beautiful views at the top. It is also reportedly a great location to view the sunset.
