Big Six Shooter - 2/15/15

At Humphrey's Gun Shop in Del Rio, TX, is the world's largest six-gun.

This piece was created by Bob "Daddy-O" Wade in 1981. It's constructed with a 55-gallon drum for the cylinder, a stove pipe for the barrel, and stucco for the pearl handle. The gun shop was closed the day we visited (it was a Sunday), so we did not get the opportunity to talk to the owner.

This same artist built a giant (40') Iguana (1978) in Fort Worth and giant Cowboy Boots, 40' tall and 30' long, (1979) displayed in San Antonio.

Where did we learn about this strange piece of artwork, ask you? Our daughter told us about an application, Roadside Attractions, (www.roadsideattractions.com) that provides interesting information about unusual sights of Americana. This is one of the things I found when I searched the app for sights to see in Del Rio.

Crazy, right?
