McNay Art Museum - San Antonio - 5/04/14

The Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum is housed in its namesake's former Andalusian-Mediterranean style mansion and opened in 1954. It was the first museum of modern art in Texas.

Entrance hall:

The patio, gardens and grounds are picturesque and modern art sculptures are displayed in various areas.

Modern art on the grounds.

Philadelphians should recognize this piece!

I cannot claim to understand this art, but I always enjoy seeing it and very much appreciate the creativity of the artists!

The museum has works by painters, graphic artists, and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries, in addition to Gothic and Medieval art, and early New Mexican arts and crafts

Desk and cabinet (very beautiful!)

Medieval stained glass (artist unknown)

Native American pottery.

Georgia O'Keefe

Its collection of Post-Impressionist paintings includes works by Cezanne, Gauguin, Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, Goya, Renoir and others.

Picasso

Mondrian (two on the right) before he got into primary colors and horizontal/perpendicular lines.

Monet (of course).

And many, many more.

We went to the NcNay the first Sunday of the month which is free. If you enjoy art museums, you will love this place. Very beautiful and peaceful setting.
